Make Way for the Ma’am
Thursday, April 26th, 2007We recently got ourselves a 40 year old maid from Nias. During the selection process, we purposely requested for an elderly lady to save ourselves from the common problems faced with younger maids. It’s so convenient having her around. I need not rush back home to pick up Faiq from his nursery, I can concentrate more on my family instead of bickering about how tiring it is to sweep and scrub and mop the whole house on weekends, I’ll save time when it comes to preparing food coz there’s someone to do the peeling and cutting, I need not wake up extra early every morning to iron my clothes..the list is endless. I also need not rush or ask Rafiq to buy food just so that I can watch Amazing Race, American Idol, Heroes and all the series I’ve missed out on since we moved into our home.
I have to say that I have no complaints when it comes to the cleaning department. That part is tip top. I enjoy the fact that my house is clean and tidy everyday. But that’s not the only reason why I hired her. She is hired so that someone can look after Faiq. Unfortunately, I can see that she tries to avoid looking after Faiq. She’d rather do the other cores. She’ll find ways to pass Faiq to my
mother in-law, then she dissapears. Then when she reappears, she’ll ask, "Faiq mana?" Wah, wah, wah..banyak cantik muka kau!!
These are my list of complaints about her:-
1. She loves to disagree. She always has an answer when I talk to her. When I give her instructions, she’ll be busy answering me that she doesnt actually listen to me.
2. Since she is older, she acts like a smart alec at my house, my parents house and my in-laws house.
3. She answers back my mother in-law. To me that is disrespectful.
4. She is too bold..dia berani sangat request I leave both her and Faiq in the house instead of sending them to my in-laws when I go to work.
I think I’ve been tolerant enough, in the sense that, maybe she too have problems adapting to her new life, leaving her husband and five children behind. But it’s not that I scold her the first time she does something wrong. I’ll tell her nicely but it seems to me she doesn’t want to change her ways.
Today she pissed me off again. I brought her along to pasar tani to buy groceries and I did ask her if she wanted anything. She said no. When we came back, my mom told me that my maid did want to buy some stuffs. HELLO!! DO I LOOK LIKE MATT PARKMAN TO YOU??! NA’AH!!
Thank God for a nearby Baskin & Robbins, I sinfully calmed my fury with a brownie sundae with caramel and nuts topping. I’m still a wee bit upset but I have a happy stomach..hehehe :o)
