Make Way for the Ma’am

Thursday, April 26th, 2007

We recently got ourselves a 40 year old maid from Nias. During the selection process, we purposely requested for an elderly lady to save ourselves from the common problems faced with younger maids. It’s so convenient having her around. I need not rush back home to pick up Faiq from his nursery, I can concentrate more on my family instead of bickering about how tiring it is to sweep and scrub and mop the whole house on weekends, I’ll save time when it comes to preparing food coz there’s someone to do the peeling and cutting, I need not wake up extra early every morning to iron my clothes..the list is endless. I also need not rush or ask Rafiq to buy food just so that I can watch Amazing Race, American Idol, Heroes and all the series I’ve missed out on since we moved into our home.

I have to say that I have no complaints when it comes to the cleaning department. That part is tip top. I enjoy the fact that my house is clean and tidy everyday. But that’s not the only reason why I hired her. She is hired so that someone can look after Faiq. Unfortunately, I can see that she tries to avoid looking after Faiq. She’d rather do the other cores. She’ll find ways to pass Faiq to my
mother in-law, then she dissapears. Then when she reappears, she’ll ask, "Faiq mana?" Wah, wah, wah..banyak cantik muka kau!!

These are my list of complaints about her:-

1. She loves to disagree. She always has an answer when I talk to her. When I give her instructions, she’ll be busy answering me that she doesnt actually listen to me.

2. Since she is older, she acts like a smart alec at my house, my parents house and my in-laws house.

3. She answers back my mother in-law. To me that is disrespectful.

4. She is too bold..dia berani sangat request I leave both her and Faiq in the house instead of sending them to my in-laws when I go to work.

I think I’ve been tolerant enough, in the sense that, maybe she too have problems adapting to her new life, leaving her husband and five children behind. But it’s not that I scold her the first time she does something wrong. I’ll tell her nicely but it seems to me she doesn’t want to change her ways.

Today she pissed me off again. I brought her along to pasar tani to buy groceries and I did ask her if she wanted anything. She said no. When we came back, my mom told me that my maid did want to buy some stuffs. HELLO!! DO I LOOK LIKE MATT PARKMAN TO YOU??! NA’AH!!

Thank God for a nearby Baskin & Robbins, I sinfully calmed my fury with a brownie sundae with caramel and nuts topping. I’m still a wee bit upset but I have a happy stomach..hehehe :o)

Track 13 OST Romeo & Juliet

Wednesday, April 25th, 2007

I love this song and I didn’t mind Iderk playing it over and over again in Room 319 :o) The chorus was recently used in one of DiGi’s ad.

You & Me Song - The Wannadies

Always when we fight
I try to make you laugh
Until everything’s forgotten
I know you hate that

ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba
ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba

Always when we fight
I kiss you once or twice
And everything’s forgotten
I know you hate that

I love you Sunday sun
The week’s not yet begun
And everything is quiet
And it’s always

You and me - always - and forever
You and me - always - and forever

ba ba ba ba ba

It was always
You and me always

You tell me I’m a real man
And try to look impressed
Not very convincing
But you know I love it

Then we watch TV
Until we fall asleep
Not very exciting
But it’s you and me
And we’ll always be together

You and me - always - and forever
You and me - always - and forever

ba ba ba ba ba

It was always

You and me - always - and forever
You and me - always - and forever

ba ba ba ba ba

It was always

You and me - always - and forever
You and me - always - and forever

ba ba ba ba ba

Too Much To B***h, Too Little Time!

Wednesday, April 25th, 2007

Zally needed a dose of "Yong" and since we haven’t met since last Raya, we decided to meet up after work yesterday.

There was so much catching up and b**ch*ng to do, topics ranging from work to maids.

Then I got a taste of what "masa mencemburui kita" felt..macam baru sekejap je borak but it was almost 9 p.m. when I left and there were many other subjects not covered!!

I think we need the whole day to ourselves the next time we wanna do this again, Zally. Thanks for dinner. I had a wonderful time!!

You Remind Me Of….

Wednesday, April 25th, 2007

Got this idea from K-Lynn’s blog entitled 5 Songs, 5 Memories. These are some of the songs which reminds me of my friends :o)

1. Tommy Page’s A Shoulder to Cry On and anything related to Tommy Page

Reminds me of Arin because she was (is?) a mati keras fan of Tommy Page.

2. Duncan Sheik’s Barely Breathing & Innuendo’s Belaian Jiwa

Reminds me of my UA81 classmates in MSM especially our last minute study group. During this time, Hitz.fm was doing their test transmission (since Hitz just celebrated their 10th birthday bash 10 years ago…sheesh, it’s been 10 donkey years since I left college!!) and Barely Breathing was one of the songs which they kept repeating. As for Belaian Jiwa, it particularly reminds me of Dang coz she was the one who introduced this song to me.

3. It’s All About The Money (can’t remember who the singer was, Meja or Mya..something like that!)

It’s all about the money, it’s all about the dum, dum, da da dum, dum. This song reminds me of Raz and Hafiz coz when we were doing our project in Part 3, UiTM (last minute work again), this was THE song back then.

4. Matchbox 20’s If You’re Gone

Reminds me of my bestfriend-cum-sister in-law, Jan. We just became classmates in 2000 and I didn’t really know her back then. I was madly in love with this song and when I heard her sang it in class, I knew we were going to be good friends.

5. Madonna’s Tell Me and Train’s Drops of Jupiter

Reminds me of Sujack coz he would sing it in class. Siap buat the dance steps of Tell Me lagi..you know the chorus part where Madonna was dancing with those cowboys..

6. Sixpence None The Richer’s Breathe Your Name

Reminds me of someone I used to fancy…hehehe. When I heard this song on the radio that night years ago, his name came into the picture (as if I was breathing his name gitu…cheeeeeesyyyyyy!!)

7. Frank Sinatra’s My Way & Robbie Williams’ Better Man

Reminds me of Rafiq Khan because those were on his song list when we went out karaokeing for the first time in 2003 :o)

8. OAG’s Slumber

Reminds me of Sheikh..coz Sheikh loves to draw cartoon during class and the cartoon characters in OAG’s video clip reminds me of his drawing…hahaha!

I’m sure there’s more and I’ll update them when the songs and the people I’m reminded of comes to mind!!

9. Wannadies You and Me Song (OST Romeo & Juliet)

Reminds me of Iderk coz she kept playing this song in our room when she first bought the Romeo & Juliet soundtrack.

10. Trisha Yearwood’s How Do I Live

Reminds me of another person I used to fancy. Managed to force him into singing this song for me..hehehe :o)

Rocky Balboa, Desire: Table for Three and Heroes

Tuesday, April 24th, 2007

RockybalboaRafiq and I seldom get to watch movies and sometime this year there were too many good movie release that we HAD to catch one of them. It was between Rocky Balboa, In Pursuit of Happyness and Dreamgirls. Since my hubby is a fan of Rocky movies, then Rocky Balboa it was. I think the story line was expected. With that infamous song and that scene where people were running up those steps..WHOA..I can’t help feeling inspired by it. And Milo Ventimiglia sangat sesuai as Rocky’s son. He and Sylvester Stallone really look alike!!

Mynetworkdesire I’m a frequent traveller to Labuan and sometimes I have so much leisure time whilst waiting for a meeting or before dozing off to sleep. And knowing the limited ASTRO channels being offered in hotels, there was not much to watch except Star World. Once I manage to catch Desire: Table for Three. I dunno why but I was hooked on the show right till the end. I don’t understand it, it’s just a dumb story, dumb plot. It’s about rivalry between two brothers..in business and love. They fall for the same girl, girl chose elder bro. But elder bro got involve with a mob’s daughter and was kidnapped. Family thought he was dead and when he came back found girl sleeping younger bro thus revenge by means of trying to destroy younger bro’s business, wooing back girl, tearing his family apart…it’s a bit absurd but the more absurd fact is that I was hooked. My hubby would kutuk me gila-gila..sebab tunjuk what was on the previous episode je dah 10 minit, theme song je dah 5 minit, too much advert in between..he enjoys kutuking me so much but I did remind him if he kutuk me and the show so much, how come he is also infront of the tv?? HAH!!

Heroescastmay16 And like the rest of the world, can I also claim to be an ardent fan of Heroes??! I LOVE HIRO NAKAMURA! I LOVE THE PETRELLI BROTHERS! I LOVE MICAH SANDERS!! I LOVE MOHINDER SURESH!! Ok laa, I love all the cast of HEROES!!

I look forward to Wednesdays even more now that I don’t have to bear whatever it is Sanjaya has to offer :o)

I Can’t Even Remember How 2006 Ended!!

Monday, April 23rd, 2007

It’s been a while since I last blogged. It’s been what..half a year now??! (hahaha..drama queen doing her exaggerating scene!!) Anyhow, I do remember cooking on new year for both families. I’m sure I roasted 5 chickens, made potato and egg salad and yang zhou fried rice whilst Jan roasted lamb, did mint sauce and boiled corns. It was the first time I prepared food for a large amount of people and I think I’m ready to entertain guests..now that we are gradually buying proper dinner sets.

It’s a little too late for this but I still wanna recap what have happened in 2006.

The first 6 months of 2006 revolved around DPA. I think initially it was kinda hard for me to adapt - meeting new people, surroundings, leaving my family especially Faiq who was 4 months old back then, the constant nag about abiding rules and regulations which, some of them to me, are high school/hostel-like. We are all adults, for God’s sake!! But despite jumping out of the 3-tonne army truck and injuring my knee, I survived DPA, thanks to my family’s support and having good friends to help me cope and kept me sane. And on 30.6.2006, I walked out of INTAN Bukit Kiara, smiling!!

My brother was engaged in January 2006 and my niece, Noor Zafeerah Hanoum binti Kamarul Zamri was born on 31.3.2006. :o) I drove my very own MyVi in March 2006.

When I came back from DPA, I was transferred to a new portfolio and I had my first trip to Labuan in July and have been a frequent visitor of Labuan until now.

Another major change which occured in 2006 was moving into our own house. Alhamdulillah, we are now the proud owner of No. 11, Jalan Damai Rasa 17, Alam Damai, Cheras. My only regret was the fact that due to the hectic schedule of DPA, I didn’t have time to plan for the house e.g. the renovations, the choosing of furnitures and curtains etc. My husband took care of everything. From sketching the renovations to our kitchen to choosing the contractors to negotiating the price to shopping for furnitures and curtains…he did everything. Thank God he’s got good taste (that’s why he chose me…hahaha!) so when he showed me what he intended to purchase, I just agreed. As far as I can remember, I was only involved in choosing the design for my wrought iron grills and lamps so in a way I’m kinda saddened about it.

Faiq celebrated his 1st birthday in our new house, then there was the trip to Gold Coast, Australia, Faiq’s admission to the nursery (and how he cried for weeks before he could adapt), me adapting to become a domestic goddess in terms of cooking and cleaning (kalau tak sebelum ni semuanya dah tersedia at my in-laws house), Dhirah sitting for SPM, Feroz completing his studies. But of course, 2006 has also seen me at the pinnacle of my kiasu-ism for injury when I had a meniscus tear for jumping out of a 3-tonne army truck, Faiq dislocating my nose and me accidentally cuuting my left index finger whilst trying to cut baby corns for dinner.

I have so much to be thankful for and I must say that it was a very good year. I hope and pray that this year will be better. And as always, since 2003, I bade farewell to 2006 reminiscing the event on 31.12.2003 when I received a bouquet of flowers at the office with the words, "Will you marry me?" written on the card, to which I replied with a text message, "I would love to be Mrs. Rafiq Khan". :o)
