This is Why I Should Have Introduced Myself as NURAIZAH

Thursday, December 21st, 2006

I was having brekafst with my colleague this morning when I saw my friend from college. She’s been in Menara PjH (TNB) since March and it was only recently that I bumped into her in the elevator (another "OMG-what-a-small-world" moment). We didn’t get to chat much or exchanged phone numbers then (what can you get from a 2 minutes ride in the elevator, rite?) so today I chatted with her for a while.

She told me that since she bumped into me, she’s been asking people who got down at Level 3 this question:

Endut: Kenal Yong tak?

Mysterious person: Yong? Yong mana?

Endut: Yong lar. Dia kata dia keje kat Tingkat 3.

Mysterious person: Sapa nama betul dia?

Endut: Entah! Yong Rafidah kot…

Shall We Dance?

Tuesday, December 19th, 2006

Was at a seminar and a meeting at Mines Palace, Beach and Spa since Monday. I didn’t know that there was a man-made beach in Mines. Well, now I know.

Watched Shall We Dance for the first time yesterday. Gone were the days when I used to anticipate the release of a movie and watch it in the cinemas. Except for Harry Potter movies. I will make an extra effort to watch HARRY POTTER even if it’s been released for two weeks.

Heard this song twice and thought of Love Actually, a movie which I like but never seen in full. And of course I thought of Colin Firth too :o)

All I Want For Christmas is You - Mariah Carey

I don’t want a lot for Christmas
There’s just one thing I need
I don’t care about presents
Underneath the Christmas tree
I just want you for my own
More than you could ever know
Make my wish come true…
All I want for Christmas
Is you…

I don’t want a lot for Christmas
There is just one thing I need
I don’t care about presents
Underneath the Christmas tree
I don’t need to hang my stocking
There upon the fireplace
Santa Claus won’t make me happy
With a toy on Christmas day
I just want you for my own
More than you could ever know
Make my wish come true
All I want for Christmas is you…
You baby

I won’t ask for much this Christmas
I won’t even wish for snow
I’m just gonna keep on waiting
Underneath the mistletoe
I won’t make a list and send it
To the North Pole for Saint Nick
I won’t even stay awake to
Hear those magic reindeer click
‘Cause I just want you here tonight
Holding on to me so tight
What more can I do
Baby all I want for Christmas is you
You…

All the lights are shining
So brightly everywhere
And the sound of children’s
Laughter fills the air
And everyone is singing
I hear those sleigh bells ringing
Santa won’t you bring me the one I really need -
won’t you please bring my baby to me…

Oh I don’t want a lot for Christmas
This is all I’m asking for
I just want to see baby
Standing right outside my door
Oh I just want him for my own
More than you could ever know
Make my wish come true
Baby all I want for Christmas is
You…

All I want for Christmas is you baby…

A Very Special Thanks..

To Rafiq Khan who cooked an excellent meal of chicken rice on Sunday :o)

Jan, my sister in-law said that my husband never cooked at home (except for maggi mee)but she once commented that though my husband never cooked, he knows what’s to be done. That usually irritates the hell out of me because he comments on the way I cook and how I go about doing things in the kitchen. But I have acccepted the fact that he is way better than me and that I have to learn from the master chef..hehehe. Mama, Jan, Dik, Jemi and Cik Su came over for lunch and they were all very impressed with the excellent meal served to them.

Thanks Sayang. nanti I minta resipi dari you, ok!!

Yes, I Have A Kiasu-ism For Injuries

Wednesday, December 13th, 2006

In my blog entry "Sorry Mama..for I’ve dislocated your nose!!", my "sister" commented that I have a kiasu-ism for injuries and asked "What’s next?" "Next" happened two days ago when I injured my left index finger. I was preparing dinner and was cutting those baby corns for my masak lemak recipe. There were some hard parts at the bottom (Sorry I dunno what it’s called) so I was trying to remove them and was working on it so hard that the big bad knife slipped from my hand and hurt my finger. I didn’t feel pain at first as I was in shock but I started panicking when I saw blood oozing out of my finger!! Luckily my husband was around and he asked me to cover my wound to stop the bleeding and helped me calmed down. He said that I should rest and once he was done with cooking, we went to a clinic near my house. I had a chance I was secretly hoping that there’ll be no stitches involved and my prayers was answered. But the medicine applied stung like hell and I was trying so hard not to cry. So now, I can say that I’m a bit cacat lar. It’s hard to do anything and once in a while terasa ngilu and berdenyut-denyut. I have to go to the clinic again tomorrow for him to remove my dressing. Hopefully everything will be alright and I won’t see anything fall out of my finger. GROSS!!

My Weekend Diary

Tuesday, December 12th, 2006

It was raining cats and dogs last Friday so I expected Rafiq to come home a little late. Fed Faiq and attempted to cook dinner but was prevented by his constant interruption which hinted that I should concentrate on him and him alone. Put Faiq to sleep while waiting for KFC dinner. Enjoyed late KFC dinner infront of tv watching Asian Games badminton’s semi-finals between Indonesia’s Taufik Hidayat and Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wei. Malaysia could’ve won but alas, we had to settle for Bronze.

Hoped and wished I could sleep till 7.30 a.m. but Faiq woke up at 6.30 a.m. and decided to start his day by peeing on me while I was changing his diapers!! It was a cloudy Saturday and it didn’t go well with my plans to do as much laundry as possible. Kita merancang tapi Allah jua yang menentukannya. After breakfast started to do housekeeping chores and at last I’m content coz my house is clean. Didn’t get to do upstairs though as it was time for me to cook lunch. Attempted to make kari daging which turned out cair so Rafiq took over and the result was an excellent meal. At about 6 p.m., my parents and my siblings came. Went out for dinner and while Rafiq put Faiq to sleep, my sister and I watched the men’s badminton doubles finals between Malaysia and Indonesia. To me it was a dejavu of the 1992 Thomas Cup except that this time it was just tense minus the shouting and swearing..haha! Was so proud when Malaysia was presented the gold medal and upon hearing Negaraku being played. It was nearly 2 a.m. and I was about to go to sleep until I saw that Bridget Jones Diary: The Edge of Reason is showing at 2 a.m. Since I am a sucker for Colin Firth and feel-good movies, my sister and I ended up sleeping at 4 a.m.

On Sunday, I prepared mee hailam for breakfast. It didn’t quite taste like Kak Tine’s but it wasn’t that bad (I think). Just need to improve my cooking skills. At about 11.30 a.m., we went to Mines to look for Dhirah’s new handphone but she didn’t find the one she wanted so she went back to Damansara empty handed. I had a date with my childhood bestfriend, Michele, who is back in Malaysia (she and her husband works in China). Picked her up at her aunt’s house in Taman Tun and met her mom whom I haven’t met in ages (the last time I met her was probably during CNY about 10 or 12 years ago!!) She commented that she can’t believe we are still friends after all these years. Come to think of it, we’ve known each other for almost 20 years. We then proceeded to have a very late lunch at D.U and made way to my parents to introduce Michele to Rafiq and Faiq. We chatted some more til about 6 p.m. and I sent her home. Hope I’ll be able to visit her in Shenzen before she moved back to Holland in 2008. Went back to Kajang after that for Jan’s bbq birthday party. I guess we don’t have to but cakes for any occasion because Kak Tine is now the official inhouse baker! Yippee!!

Tiring but great weekend!

As the weekend approached..

Tuesday, December 5th, 2006

I attended a meeting yesterday, a meeting in which I represented my boss. The chairperson was late as usual and obviously didn’t do her homework before the meeting. I felt embarrased for her coz it involved an outside party. It also ended late because as usual, some of the things discussed were not relevant to the meeting, it was more of a history lesson. Thanks for sharing but I’m not interested and you are really wasting my time.

Anyway, it was raining cats and dogs (more like giraffes and elephants) when I got home yesterday. Bought some prawns as I planned to cook masak lemak cili api (first attempt menjadi..YIPPEE!!). By the time I cleaned my kitchen, it was nearly 11 p.m. and I was dead tired but was enticed into watching the Asian Games Badminton Finals between China and Korea. It’s been a while since I last watched a match with dearest hubby. The only match I watched with him, which is very rare is probably tennis. Well, you can’t compare me with someone who watches everything, I mean EVERYTHING on ESPN - from tennis, hockey, football to lawn bowling and yatching, OK!!

Anyway, back to the badminton finals between China & Korea..It was probably badminton at its best, watching the two teams fought the battle in pursuit of a gold medal made me realised how strong the two teams were compared to ours. I hope the Malaysian team could learn from them, especially in terms of mental strength during the game. I only planned to watch the 2nd men’s single between Chen Jin (CHN) and Park Sung Hwan (KOR) but ended up watching the 2nd men’s double because one of the Korean pair (Lee Jae Jin) was kinda cute. Lame hor? Both of us slept at about 1 a.m. With a feeling of sleeping for only an hour at 5.45 a.m. this morning, I lazily got up to get ready for work. Guess who had an early start too?! Faiq of course, who woke up at 6.15 a.m..about 1/2 hour earlier than his usual time.

Alrighty, back to work, mate!!

If I Were You

Dedicated to D, who received an "uninvited" text messsage yesterday. To that someone who texted her, I urged you to leave D alone. She has moved on with her life, so why don’t you move on with yours?

Separate Lives _ Phil Collins

You called me from the room in your hotel
All full of romance for someone that you met
And telling me how sorry you were, leaving so soon
And that you miss me sometimes when you’re alone in your room
Do I feel lonely too?

You have no right to ask me how I feel
You have no right to speak to me so kind
We can’t go on just holding on to time
Now that we’re living separate lives

Well I held on to let you go
And if you lost your love for me, well you never let it show
There was no way to compromise
So now we’re living (living)
Separate lives

Ooh, it’s so typical, love leads to isolation
So you build that wall (build that wall)
Yes, you build that wall (build that wall)
And you make it stronger

Well you have no right to ask me how I feel
You have no right to speak to me so kind
Some day I might (I might) find myself looking in your eyes
But for now, we’ll go on living separate lives
Yes for now, we’ll go on living separate lives
Separate lives
