A Tai-tai of One Day

Thursday, November 23rd, 2006

Since I had to take Faiq to the clinic today for his routine check-up, I decided to take leave so that I am able to utilise my birthday pressie from Kak Tine which is a 3-hour pampering at Holistic Body & Beauty Esthetics in Bangsar. This 3-hour pampering includes an aromatherapy body massage, rose body polish and a facial therapy..something which I really, really need post DPA and post Taman Negara program.

Massage

It was pure pampering for me who has only done the above under a pre-wedding package thingy..and back then it wasn’t in a real-real beauty therapy spa atmosphere. I don’t think I would’ve had the initiative to do it myself if it wasn’t a gift. Now I know what the fuss is all about!! The music was soothing, everything was so relaxing and I really enjoyed my treat. Sigh..how I wish I have the luxury (cash and time) to do all that whenever I please. But for now, I guess I am content to get a 1% taste of being a tai-tai..even if it’s just for a day :o)

Incase I forget..

And we forget because we must,

And not because we will. -Matthew Arnold

It’s a wonder how quickly we forget important things we normally take for granted. But incase I forget, I shall always be reminded of this email which really made my day:

"And let me tell you something, Yong, you are the luckiest person on earth to have ‘grabbed’ Upiq. He’s such an adorable person."

Thanks F, for reminding me how lucky I am :o)

Sorry Mama..for I’ve dislocated your nose!!

Tuesday, November 21st, 2006

I recently came back from Taman Negara after a program organised by Ministry. Faiq was not feeling well that day..I’ve been told that he’s been vomitting each time he had his meal. It was then time to sleep and as we played him to sleep, he did his usual "timber" action..from his sitting position, he would lean back and land himself on the pillow (or anything else..be it the wall or the floor). When he did it the first time I managed to evade his head. Due to fatigueness of the outdoor activities and lack of sleep, I failed to avoid his second hit, and his head landed straight on my nose. Suddenly my nose felt numb and I felt tears coming out of my eyes. It was so painful and I didn’t know what to do. Rafiq kept asking me if I wanted ice and to cover my nose with a pillow. After a while, I calmed down because although I was in so much pain, I thought it it couldn’t be so serious as no blood was oozing out of my nose. So I slept soundly (except from 4.30 a.m. onwards when I was hit with food poisoning).

Si55550941_ma The next morning, I realised that there was a blod clot in my nose. When I went to the clinic to get treatment for my food poisoning, I informed the doctor of my nose injury and he told me that my nose is not fractured but slightly dislocated..maybe 15 degrees or so. He told me not to worry as it is a minor injury. The solution is surgery but it’s ok not to have it but blocked nose syndrome will be occuring more often from now on.

I’ve missed you too Faiq! Thanks for the welcome home "gift"!! Muuaaaahhhh!!

Yong - Connecting People :o)

It is indeed a surprise when I got a message from one Fatin in my Friendster message. Since I know many Fatins and her profile photo is that of a cute little girl, I was eager to find out who she is. Turned out that she was my senior in MGHS, a fellow Girl Guide who acted with me in our very own production of Romeo & Juliet. Perhaps what surprised me the most was this part of her message: "The first thing I saw was your family pic. Omigosh!!!! R u married to Rafiq???? It was a surprise to me… ada gak aritu email2 ngan kengkawan USM tapi dia (UpiQ)ada sebut nak dpt baby, tapi tak pernah bgtau sape isteri dia…. U ke????? wow, it’s a small small world!!!"

It is indeed a small world when we find out that we are somehow connected to other people. Dida’s friend serached for her through me (but they later berjejak kasih by themselves when their husbands bumped into each other during Friday prayers). I was reading a friend’s blog the other day and she listed down a few old friend’s she’s looking for and I know someone from that list. My colleague’s sister is my sister in-law’s bestfriend and her dad plays tennis with my husband. I mean..YIKES!! Smallworld

Somehow, my husband did his share of reuniting me with my old school friend as well. Once, we went to his friend’s wedding and it turned out that his friend was my junior in primary school.

So I guess we have to share the tagline with Nokia and claim Disney’s It’s a Small World After All :o)

Iftar with my Makan, Tido, Gelak & Enjoy Gang

Wednesday, November 15th, 2006
I only managed to upload these photos when I got a surprise call from Aden who happened to be around the corner. On 6 October 2006, after much debate on the most suitable iftar venue, we decided to break fast at California Pizza Kitchen in KLCC. Most of my makan, tido, gelak and enjoy gang were there namely Dina, Iderk, Shima (who drove all the way from Seremban - thanks dear!!), Dang, Aden, Julie, Iderk, Fariza, Nina, Nurul & Mardiana. We parted in 1997 and have gone a long way since our makan, tido, gelak & enjoy days in MSMKL but some things never change and save for the changes in appearance and size, deep down inside, we are still the same 18 year old teenagers we befriended when we went into college!
Here’s to everlasting friendship :o)

Nervous Wreck!

Wednesday, November 15th, 2006

I am so nervous because my youngest sister will be sitting for her SPM today. Her Principles of Accounts paper will start at 2 p.m. I don’t remember being this nervous when she took her PMR. Maybe it’s because this is kinda like the final countdown already. I called her last night and she sounded ready so I guess there’s nothing to worry about, insya-Allah.

Good luck for your SPM, Dhee!! We’ll be praying for you!

In Pursuit of Becoming a Domestic Goddess

Sunday, November 12th, 2006

Those who know me know that I am a bad cook. NO..CORRECTION..I know nuts about cooking. ZERO!! Yeah..I’ve been married for two years but I could actually count with my fingers the number of times I’ve cooked for my husband. That’s the comfort I gained from staying with my in-laws and having in-laws who doesn’t mind my cooking disability.

Recently I’ve moved into my own place and I have my own kitchen. So I can’t let my kitchen go stone cold, yes? Therefore I’ve been "heating" up my kitchen, trying recipes from the internet, from recipe books etc. So far so good lar..I’m no NIGELLA but am slowly getting there.

Yesterday my husband suggested that i try cooking curry mee. So after breakfast we went to Bt 9 market to buy the ingredients. I cooked the gravy with the help of my darling husband whom advised me when to stop adding water, what to do with the cockels etc. Brought it to my in-laws place for tea and it was a hit. Woohoo!! Thanks to Jan for boosting my confidence (by saying that mee kari tuh boleh jual). Can’t wait to try more recipes from the recipe book my husband got me for my birthday :o) (HINT!!)

The Lost Poem - Dr. Seuss

I love my job, I love the pay!

I love it more and more each day.

I love my boss, he is the best!

I love his boss and all the rest.

Dr_seuss

I love my office and its location,

I hate to have to go on a vacation.

I love my furniture, drab and grey,

And piles of paper that grow each day!

I think my job is really swell, there’s nothing else I love so well.

Catinhatmagnets3pk I love to work among my peers, I love their leers and jeers and sneers.

I love my computer and its software;

I hug it often though it won’t care.

I love each program and every file.

I’d love them more if they worked a while. Seuss_cat_in_the_hat_hat_3d_magnet

I’m happy to be here; I am, I am!!

I’m the happiest slave of this organisation, I am!

I love this work, I love these chores.

I love the meeting with deadly bores.

I love my job - I’ll say it again - I even love those friendly men.

Those friendly men who’ve come today,

In clean white coats to take me awayyyyyyyyy!!!

Proud Aunt Syndrome

Sunday, November 5th, 2006

I never knew the extent of how proud a parent can be of their children until I experience it myself..and it’s not even my children :o)

Last Friday, when Jan came over to our house for our baking session, she told me that Sabrina and Imran (my niece and nephew) got excellent results in their exams. Sabrina and Imran are both in Standard One. I know to some people that it’s like, "Darjah Satu jer!!" but it’s a big thing for them. Sabrina dapat nombor satu and she can now advanced from the second class to the first class whilst Imran dapat nombor lima and he can now advanced from the fourth class to the second class.

I guess I am not surprised Sabrina got number one coz she is the smart and brainy type. Probably the type that doesn’t have to work hard but can still excel. Jan told me how overwhelmed she was at Imran’s results coz Imran had learning problems at first. He hardly know how to read when he went into Standard One. He is a typical 7 year old boy who probably only have these on his mind: playing with his friends, when is recess, when to go home and when is school break. Because of his learning problems, he had to go into remedial class. And Kak Tine and Lachik did their part..sending him to tuitions classes and all. Dadima coached him as well. I remembered how worried Kak Tine was a day before the exam. Imran kat luar tengah main bunga api :o) All their hard work paid off and alhamdulillah Imran caught up well with his lessons.

When I went to Dadima’s house on Saturday, Imran approached me and told me the good news. He was busting with pride and so excited. Everything was so innocent and I felt proud and I finally get a taste of what each parents must have felt when told of their children’s good results. Dadima couldn’t help talking about it too when her guests asked her about her grandchildren’s results!!

Congratulations, darlings!! Both of you did a wonderful job and Mami Yong is sure that both of you will set good examples to the younger Khans! Keep it up!! nanti boleh laa kami makan kat hotel setiap kali keluar result exam :o)
